Two student teams from Florida Tech won top three finishes in several categories at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) 2020 Regional Student Conference.
In the team category, Archit Srivastava and Lobna Mahmoud placed second with their research paper, “Development of an Excavation and Transportation System for Sub-Lunar ISRU Applications.”
In the freshman/sophomore open topic category, Tegla Jones and Mackenzie Wiles placed third with their research paper, “Sustained Space Missions – The Microbiome and Health of Passengers Aboard Spacecraft.”
“I’m impressed by the student research topics,” Dan Dumbacher, AIAA executive director, said in a statement. “These forward-looking students will be tackling the next challenges in our industry. Congratulations to the students!”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, in-person conferences and presentations were cancelled, and students were judged on their papers instead.
