Lisa Steelman, professor and program chair for the Industrial/Organizational Psychology program and interim dean of the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, has been named dean of the college, Provost Monica Baloga announced on Aug. 9.
She replaces Mary Beth Kenkel, who retired this summer after 17 years at Florida Tech.
Steelman earned her Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, in 1997. She joined Florida Tech in fall 1999. Steelman has served the university in several administrative positions, including senior associate dean, and in these positions she envisioned and implemented new programs and initiatives to benefit faculty, the academic educational units, and the service components of the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts. Additionally, she has served as chair of the Institutional Review Board and been a member of the Faculty Senate, Faculty Library Committee, and Graduate Council.
Steelman has authored or co-authored 23 refereed publications and book chapters and is currently co-authoring a book, Feedback at Work: Evidence-Based Best Practices, which is to be published in early 2019. She serves on editorial boards for Organizational Analysis and The Industrial Organizational Psychologist, the latter of which she worked as editor from 2010-13. She is active as a reviewer in professional organizations, such as the American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
