Chemical engineering undergrad Rekisha Pootoon was awarded second place in the Energy and Sustainability division of the Undergraduate Research Poster Competition at the 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Annual Student Conference in San Francisco this November. Pootoon’s research focused on synthesizing new electrode materials for hydrogen production via water splitting. Pootoon was assisted by graduate students Chengeto Kazuva and Marina DeBiasi who did initial evaluation of the solar source used in the experiment. There were over 400 undergraduate participants across US institutions that featured in the overall competition. All three students were mentored by Assistant Professor Jonathan Mbah.
