Organizers and guests at the AIAA annual banquet at Florida Tech on Feb. 4.

The Florida Tech student branch of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) hosted its annual banquet on Feb. 4. The event featured a presentation by Michelle Evans, author of The X-15 Space Plane: Flying the First Wings Into Space, who gave an entertaining and detailed description of that revolutionary aircraft and the people who designed and flew it.

The meeting also included a presentation by AIAA Executive Director and former astronaut Sandy Magnus about proposed changes to the governance structure of AIAA.

The event was held in the Hartley room of the Denius Student Center and attracted 35 students and professionals. It was organized by the AIAA student leadership, including student president Noemi Redak and Vice President Mark Montero. David Fleming is faculty adviser for the Florida Tech AIAA Student Branch. Hamid Hefazi, head of the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department, also supported the event.
