Bjornar K. Hermansen

Bjornar K. Hermansen, a member of the Florida Tech Board of Trustees and long-time university supporter, passed away Dec. 30, 2015.

An accomplished businessman and philanthropist originally from Norway, Hermansen was a valued member of the Florida Tech board of trustees since 1989, noted for his advocacy of the university’s commitment to global education, said President Anthony J. Catanese.

As a businessman, he helped transform Port Canaveral and the cruise industry in addition to successful ventures in banking, real estate and hotels, among others. He was also known for his generosity and volunteerism, supporting Junior Achievement of the Space Coast, the Brevard Zoo, the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and other causes. At Florida Tech, the Hermansens established the Paul Andre Hermansen Memorial Scholarship.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Bjorg, two sons and their families.
