University Named to Tree Campus USA List

Florida Tech\’s campus, located on 130 subtropical acres, was recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation.

The Arbor Day Foundation has named Florida Tech one of its 2013 Tree Campus USA schools, joining fewer than 300 colleges and universities in this honor. The distinction involves a certification process. Arbor Day President Dan Lambe said being named a Tree Campus “sets your campus apart from other schools and shows your commitment to encouraging students and university personnel to care for our planet’s tree resources.”

Florida Tech and the other recipients were identified in a full-page ad in the Chronicle of Higher Education in September.

Achieving this distinction involves meeting five \”standards\” set forth by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Those include the formation of an active campus tree advisory committee and the development of a campus tree care plan, which should set forth guidance for planting, maintaining and removing trees, as well as an educational component targeting the campus community and beyond on the importance of trees to the campus.
