Doug Flutie and William M. (Bill) Brown, two men of distinction in their respective fields, have been named to the university’s Board of Trustees.
Brown is chairman, president and CEO of Harris Corporation. Prior to this, Brown was with United Technologies Corporation, where he held several senior leadership roles since joining the company in 1997. He joins two former Harris CEOs who currently sit on the board: Phillip W. Farmer, current Board chairman, has served since 1994; John T. Hartley has served on the Board since 1987.
Raised in Melbourne Beach, Flutie played 12 seasons in the National Football League, eight seasons in the Canadian Football League and one season in the United States Football League. He was a six-time CFL Most Outstanding Player Award recipient, a six-time CFL All-Star, named NFL Comeback Player of the Year and played in the 1999 Pro Bowl. He remains active in the community with the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism named after his son, who was diagnosed with autism at three years old.
