Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

In middle, winners Dick Blake and Thomas Cole

Florida Tech celebrated the life and achievements of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in January at an annual awards event hosted by the Office of Alumni Affairs and the School of Arts and Communication.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the annual Julius Montgomery Award, which was given to Dick Blake. Montgomery was one of Florida Tech’s first African-American students. Thomas Cole was awarded the Dr. Harvey L. Riley Bridge Builder Award for community activism and improvement. Riley, who passed away in 2012, was the long-time pastor of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Palm Bay.

The Florida Tech choir performed “Lift Every Heart and Sing” and “Every Time I Feel the Spirit.”
