Guy Boy and Delilah Caballero presented the Human-Centered Design Institute to the community in an open house and ribbon-cutting Nov. 6. Florida Tech faculty and staff as well as dozens of members from the area community crowded around to hear about the institute’s many projects and capabilities from Boy, graduate students and special guests. Also speaking were Deputy Director of NASA Kennedy Space Center Janet Petro; Xavier Lavayssiére, deputy attaché for science and technology of the French Embassy, based in Atlanta, Ga.; and Christine Michaels of the Mebourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida.
Presenters were on hand to demonstrate the institute’s new Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 HCD cockpit simulators. The researchers will use the new acquisitions to support such efforts as computer-based onboard documentation, 3D weather forecast situation awareness systems and NextGen trajectory-based operation support systems.
