Holly Chichester, grounds manager and university horticulturist, led a tree-planting effort Jan. 18, Florida Arbor Day. An ad hoc crew of volunteers, including students, planted a Drake Elm in the planter box outside the Denius Student Center. The shade tree can grow up to 30 feet in such a space.

The effort was part of Chichester\’s aim for Florida Tech to be named an Arbor Tree Foundation Tree campus USA site. She seeks members for her committee to achieve this goal. Contact her at hchichester@fit.edu.

\”Planting trees is an act of kindness and optimism,\” said Chicester. For informatin on Tree Campus USA or the Arbor Day Foundation, visit: www.arborday.org.
