The Newman Student Housing Fund, in collaboration with Florida Tech, broke ground Dec. 7 for the Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic student residence. The new housing, for 140 students, will rise on the east side of Babcock Street, near Florida Avenue. Completion is expected by the start of the fall 2013 semester.

Groundbreaking speakers included President Anthony J. Catanese; Most Reverend Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Orlando John Noonan; Catholic Campus Chaplain Fr. Doug Bailey; and President and Chief Executive Officer, Newman Student Housing Fund, Matt Zerrusen. A Knights of Columbus honor guard from a local chapter of the organization was among the approximately 100 people attending the event.
