Matthew Ruane, instructor in the department of humanities and communication, was selected to participate in the 2012 Asian Studies Development Program Institute on Infusing Chinese and Japanese Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum. He will study July 23 through Aug. 10 at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The multidisciplinary institute fosters faculty and institutional development aimed at enhancing undergraduate teaching and learning about Asian cultures and societies. The focus of the 2012 program will be China and Japan in their regional and global contexts. The first two weeks of the program will feature lectures and discussions on the cultures, philosophical and religious traditions, histories and arts of China and Japan. The third week will cover social, economic and political dynamics in China and Japan from the early 20th century to the present.
