Fireball Run Children Recovery Effort Succeeds

Missing since December 2010, siblings Journey and Trust Everitt have finally been found thanks to the recovery efforts of the 2011 Fireball Run Adventurally, a destination-based rally competition and awareness campaign for missing and abducted children. Team Florida Tech of Winston Scott, dean, College of Aeronautics, and Jennifer Neuhard, assistant vice president of marketing; and Team Space Coast, led by NASCAR legend Geoff Bodine, were two of the 35 teams that participated in the rally. Team Florida Tech sponsored Journey and Team Space Coast sponsored Trust.

The Fireball Run Adventurally supports the Race to Recover America’s Missing Children Foundation, the largest and longest active recovery effort for missing children in the U.S. Each Fireball Run team represents a missing child from their home region and their mission is to distribute 1,000 posters of missing children over 15 cities spanning 2,500 miles.

“Team Florida Tech spent extra time at each location signing autographs, taking photos, talking with the locals and distributing flyers,” said Scott. “At one location, we were greeted by Journey’s relatives. It made our days even longer, but we tried to stick to the true meaning of the rally.”

Two additional missing children were also found, so far, as a result of the rally.
