Florida Tech Again Named Tree Campus USA

For the fifth straight year, Florida Tech has earned the designation Tree Campus USA.

The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

To obtain this distinction, Florida Tech met the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry required by Tree Campus USA: establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and the sponsorship of student service-learning projects.

The Arbor Day observance involved the planting of six trees representing the six years Florida Tech has celebrated Arbor Day: Three are Magnolia grandiflora (Southern Magnolia) and three are Sabal palmetto (Sabal/Cabbage palms). Both are native to Florida. The trees were planted in the residential quad near the Ethos Community Garden.
