Manolis Tomadakis, the department head of chemical engineering, was elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the highest level of recognition in his field.
A combination of academic leadership, service and advocacy to the chemical engineering community and outstanding research were considerations for the honor. Tomadakis has been a member of the Florida Tech faculty since 1993. He was nominated for this honor by his colleagues at Florida Tech and elsewhere in recognition of his contributions in chemical engineering education and research, program development and leadership, and professional service.
His research developing mathematical models, computer simulation methods and algorithms for estimating mass and energy transport, reaction and the nuclear magnetic resonance properties of porous materials has been used to make technological advances in numerous fields, including aerospace and biotechnology.
